Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall blazoned as follows:  Or, two chevrons braced Sable, overall on a pile reversed Gules (Soldier Red), a ship's wheel surmounted by a key, ward to sinister and downward and a lightning bolt in saltire all of the first.  Attached below the device is a Red scroll inscribed "DAKOTAN PROVIDER" in Gold letters.

Symbolism
Soldier red and gold are the colors traditionally associated with Logistics.  The chevrons and pile denote support.  The black chevrons allude to the Black Hills of South Dakota, indicating the home state of the unit.  The pile also symbolizes a spearhead, combined with the images of the ship's wheel, key and lightning bolt conveys the unit's accuracy and focus to provide logistical support.

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 17 January 2013.
